Ithaca FoodshedThis is a featured page

Ithaca is full of many food resources including grocery stores, co-ops, and a farmers' market. However, the more natural, organic, or healthy the food is, the more expensive tends to be. But there is one great exception, and that is wild and planted foods on public land. During the summer of 2008, I started noticing that many streets downtown had food growing, that anyone could pick themselves. I noted all the locations that I had harvested from and compiled a map of the area's free food resources.

- People are also encouraged to add themselves on this map if they have plant stock / seed stock to share and if they are looking for certain things. Please use a 'human' icon when placing yourself.

This map is a work in progress. It is currently a Google map, and there are two ways to add data to the map.
  • Use this link to load the editable map, and you can add any locations that you know of. This requires a Google account. Please include any known details such as when it is edible also.
  • Fill out this online form and I'll add the data myself, no account required.
Please keep the data limited to free resources available to anyone. Good examples are if you know of an apple tree on your street, or a farm that will give you food for your labor without any costs or membership required.
